The Geeky Girl Tag

I'm a geek and I'm proud! There, I said it! I'm a physics student who has qualifications in computer programming, and loves nothing more than sitting playing a computer game or two with the teen or watching Agents of Shield or Hellboy for the millionth time (when the toddler allows!).  So when Debbie from "My Chaotically Eclectic Life" tagged me in the Geeky Girl Tag I was really pleased as it is right up my street!

I really am a Geeky Girl!

1. What is your must-have tech gadget?

My iPhone - it pretty much is my nerve centre - everything is done from it.  Calendars (which I then sync to my laptop), I use it as my everyday camera (I guess like most people), I use it when cooking for reading recipes, I write my lists on it (I love a good list!), I use it for music in the gym (when I manage to drag myself there!).  It is pretty much glued to my hand most days ( a good battery pack is also useful!), I even installed word on it to do uni work and have access to my uni materials (I am an OU student) on it when I am out and about and can't take my laptop!

2. Which house do you belong to in Hogwarts?

Well, I would like to belong to Gryffindor  but according to The Pottermore Quiz I belong in Ravenclaw! So not too bad!

3. Who is your favourite Doctor?

Of the more recent ones, I love Matt Smith's incarnation of the Dr. (so number 11), he just IS the doctor!

4. If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would it be?

Probably, the eleventh Dr.  or maybe Iron Man....oh what the heck, I'll have dinner with both!

5. What is your gaming system of choice?

Well, we have Nintendo and xBox but I have a proper soft spot for retro systems - Sega Mega Drive and oh my how I loved my Nintendo Gameboy colour - and my heart swooned a little when my teen bought herself a replica of the one I had (same case colour and everything, not sure who was more excited - me or her!).

6. If you had a super power, what would it be?

Oh, this is tough! Super power.....erm....I kind of like the idea of mind reading but think that may be a little noisy after a while! So, I think, it would have to be .....teleportation....there are so many places I would like to see - but I would hope that I could transport others with me, oh and possibly visit other planets/galaxies (did I tell you I am a bit of a science nerd?)....actually I have pretty much described what The Dr. lets change to time travel!

7. What is your favourite fantasy world?

Lyra's Oxford - it is a world that mirrors our own but slightly magical - it is basically a parallel universe.   It is the main world, or the focus of rather, in Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy (and the future release of Book of Dust trilogy),  These are my favourite books of all time - very closely ahead of Terry Pratchett Discworld novels, actually that would be my second favourite fantasy world!

8. If you could be any fictional race, what would you be?

It would have to be a witch from Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials.  They are wise, don't age, beautiful and have rather cool names like Seraphina Pekala....what's not to like (apart from the daemons...they are generally birds for the witches and I'm a little freaked by birds...though getting better!). I hope they make an appearance in his new trilogy, The book of  Dust - first part to be released in October - 10 years it has been in the pipeline.  Dude bought me pre-order for my birthday! Super excited!

9. Star Trek or Star Wars?

Argh - descisions! I loved Star Trek growing up (along with the original planet of the apes series even though that wasn't the question!) but I think I probably now prefer Star Wars.

10. List your top 5 geektastic movies or TV series:

This is quite hard as I have so many favourites, but I think these are probably my top 5, in no particular order;

  1. Iron Man - all films.
  2. Marvel Agents of Shield.
  3. Dr. Who, great to watch with with nibbles, maybe like fish fingers and custard  😉!
  4. Hellboy - again all the films.
  5. Fantastic Four (the 2005 version, haven't seen the 2015 - I'm never a big fan of remakes)

11. List your top 5 favourite video games:

I'm a bit of a kid when it comes to computer games as my 5 favourite games will show!

1. Sonic - any Sonic game but it takes me back right back to my childhood (that makes me sound a little old! ha!)
2. Mario Kart
3.  wii sports resort - we kinda get a little competitive when we play as a family!
4. Dragon Quest - Swords

If I don't sound about 12 already, this last one should do the trick!

5.  Minecraft (my eldest likes me to play with her - that is my excuse and I am sticking to it!)

* * * * * * * * * *

I had sooo much fun doing this!

I now tag:

Happy Friday Folks and enjoy your weekend! x

  1. Love it! Sonic never even entered my head when I did mine but I loved playing that and Zelda although haven't played either for ages.

    1. Thanks for the tag! I really loved filling it out. Yes to Zelda as well - though haven't actually played that for a few years! Feel the need to go find a copy now! haha!
